51/365 penguins

Sorry it is a day late, but I did try.  For some reason last night I just could not get logged into this site.  After an hour I was ready for bed and decided it just had to wait.   This was taken with my phone seeing as the older two and I spent the day taking down Christmas lights at our (no so local to us) zoo.  The penguins were out enjoying the cold, but sunny weather and at this point the girls were smiling because they knew we were done!  It was fun, but after four hours of digging through snowdrifts we were wet, tired, cold, and very hungry!  Nothing a stop at Whole Foods couldn’t solve.  Sashimi for me and pizza for them and we were all happy to be headed home.  Always nice to get to the big city now and then.

raindrops keep falling

at the zoo.  It seems that anytime I think I will bring the kids to the zoo, it rains.  Our zoo is over an hour away, thankfully there are other indoor things to do in the area.

This last time, we waited it out and went in the afternoon after the rain blew through.   We had arrived in town early to see the baby elephant before the crowds, tell you more about that on down the post. So we hit a mall to let the girls get out some energy and do some Father’s Day shopping.  Then we went to see Up.  Loved that movie and can’t wait to see it again.  I missed the short at the beginning for a potty-run so I cannot comment on it.  The movie itself , however, made me cry in spots and laugh in others.  Such a sweet, human story told well to many levels.  The twins watched the whole movie and only talked to ask me why I was crying, quite loudly too.  The older two understood the sad parts for the most part, but absolutely love the movie regardless.  Having been a part of the adoption community they have been exposed to issues such as these a bit.  Did I mention I would really like to see it again?

Squirrel……

Once we got to the zoo, it ended up being a nice trip.  There weren’t the usual crowds because of the weather.  The downfall was that the whole reason we have been trying to get there is to see the baby elephant…who is only on display certain hours that we missed.  They really should put those things up on their website.

Regardless we had fun.  There is a wonderful aquarium there, lots of animals out sunning themselves after all the rain, a carousal that the twins loved, and a nice playground built for all ages.  We also managed to be there when zoo keepers were at different stations answering questions and telling stories about the animals they care for.  We were able to talk with them at the Elephants, Rhinoceros, Pheasants, and Sun Cat.  The older girls had very intelligent questions for the workers and were able to answer some of their questions quiet well considering we haven’t gotten much into animal science yet.

to the zoo

Not my house, the zoo, though it many times sounds and likely lookslike a zoo.  We went to the REAL zoo this weekend.  The girls dressed up in their princess outfits and we walked around for awhile collecting small amounts of candy (my kids flipped as yesterday was more candy than they see in about a years time.)  It was good to get out in the crisp fall air, there was a beautiful sunset over the bison, and my camera was at home in the diaper bag that I forgot 😦  Story of my life.  I should know not to put the camera in the diaper bag, as I always forget the camera and subsequently the diaper bag along with it this time.  My poor kids are going to wonder why there are many photos of them in the house and very few photos outside of the house and I’ll have to explain…nah, they will likely know as it’s just how I am.

My parents went with us and husband stayed home to clean out the garage, by his choice.  I’m telling you, I married the best there is.  He cleared out so much stuff he had to take a load up to the dumpster at my parent’s restaurant.  My heart throbs, he is so good!

Speaking of my parent’s restaurant:  I was working there the other night at the register.  I had the twins with me.  About midway through the night, Cee Cee went around to the other side of the register and stuck her little 2-year old hand up as close as she could to the counter and says “8 dollars please, momma.”  At least she said please, right?
