At 11P.M. last night, the final draft of the economic stimulus plan was posted.
This is the bill the House will vote on today. Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Independent, Green, etc. No matter your party, no matter your persuasion on government issues, this is irresponsible government. What happened to the bill being available for public research? Who could possibly review and make sense of it in that short time? Who could possibly even read the entire thing?
I ask our representatives: for it or against it, to PLEASE READ IT before voting on it!
I had hopes, with this bill in particular, that the promises of transparency and bi-partisanship would be kept. I had hopes that the American people would be able to investigate and to contact their representatives regarding their concerns and/or support. People are quick to talk about the debt of the last few years, I am one of them. However, here we are spending/investing more as a government than we ever have and we are doing it blindly. This debt will be passed to our children, to our grandchildren, what will the effects of it? Good, bad? Who knows because it was done behind closed doors and there is no time to read the darn thing!
Does this bother anyone besides me? Is anyone else concerned the the most costly bill in the history of our government will be voted upon without the public, let alone those voting on it, being able to read the thing?
When will the people take back their Republic?
I try not to write about politics, but I can’t help but saying things have been pushed to a new level and I can not remain silent about it!
Signing off to call my reps, hoping someone does the same.
*edited to add: There are news reports out there now stating that reps are admitting that they will not be able to read it before voting FOR it.
And, if that is not enough, the rush to get it done, the rush to skip the 48 hour review period? Nancy Pelosi has to catch a plan to Rome. Well, since she has a schedule who needs to read the thing, right? You have to be kidding me! Is anyone else out there concerned about this?
