Hi Deanne! I just happened upon one of your comments on recipezaar that stated you do not use white sugar or white flour. So following the links, I got to your blog and I am hoping that you would have some time to email me. I recently was told that we need to cut out ALL sugar out of our daughter's diet. Outside of the common things you would thing have sugar in them, I have found that pretty much EVERYTHING has sugar of some sort in it. So I have been a little frustrated, but know that I can do this, I just NEED help!! So, I would love to talk to you about what you feed your kids and if you have any recipes that you would like to share, I would be overjoyed. I think you will get my email, but if not, I will watch for follow up comments and then post my email for you. Thank you so much!!

How dare life get in the way of blogging??? LOL! I keep writing on mine, because it's the closest thing I have to a journal, but I'm so far behind in reading everyone else's. I hope you get your foot all figured out and fixed up soon. I can imagine how frustrating that must be.

Hi! I just found your blog and am really enjoying it! This is my first year of canning and lacto-fermenting, and I love experimenting with different vegetables. This post reminded me of the lacto-fermented zucchini relish I made this summer. It's so much better than I thought it would be. I enjoy mine on top of fried or scrambled eggs (I add it when the egg is half-cooked so that it is heated some, but doesn't lose it's enzymes) and on burgers. Making jelly with honey sounds great! I don't know why I didn't think of that, but it sounds wonderful!

12% already? I'm impressed. We aren't that far along at all, but we only did a couple of days before Labor Day. I do love the curriculum, but do wish we could school year round rather than having to get it all done in a set amount of time. We always get it done, but this year with a K and 1st grader at the same time, it would be so much easier if I could spread it out a bit.

We homeschool on our own as it was a better decision for us, and I am like you, especially when people ask the question of how long I am going to homeschool. I just answer until it doesn't work for us anymore and then tell them my hopes.

The biggest thing I struggled with in the decision to homeschool was, like Jenny, family kept on me about socialization until I just started ignoring the question altogether. I figured out that I was never going to please them and stopped trying, although that works with my attitude ;).

I hope you have a great school year!

We're planning to homeschool and - in a way - we already do. It's a real struggle dealing with family attitudes surrounding our decision to homeschool.

I'm the soccer mom from HELL! I have been known to get in huge screaming matches with parents who get too competitive. I have been known to scream over them "JUST HAVE FUN HONEY!!!". I am a bit of a bully to the bullies. Because, for cripe sakes, it's RECREATIONAL!!! It isn't even TRAVEL soccer. It's city league. For FUN! Geez.

We have a league here that fines parents for giving anything but positive encouragement starting with the words "go, great, good, nice". Ha. It's hysterical but omg those parents get PISSED when they aren't allowed to coach from the sidelines or criticize their kids (or - gasp - other kids). I love watching them squirm.

Good for Jane for being such a thoughful young lady! Luckily my girls never wanted to play soccer. I'd ask them every year, even try to play it up a big just to be sure I wasn't discouraging them from it, and they always said no. And then I'd go in my room and do a little happy dance. Tank Boy, on the other hand, said he wanted to play this year. I didn't get him signed up in time, and he didn't care at all. Maybe next year.
