…is a whole bunch of everything.
Helping parent’s move, done moaning about that though. It is what it is and I’ll likely freeze myself tomorrow at the moving sale.
Made crackers today, yum! Used this recipe using millet and wheat flours with a little less baking powder (I really do not want to be able to taste baking powder so I’m always cautious there.) They turned out pretty good. I have a little jalapeno cookie cutter (2 inches big?) that I used to cut some of them out and then brushed them with a little bit of basil olive oil mixed with garlic oil and cayenne pepper. Yum! Husband especially likes them.
Also roasted a few pumpkins. I’ll use the leftover puree for a pie or breads or something. I get to wanting stuff like that when cold weather sets in (low near 40 tonight!) Soaked the seeds and they are drying right now. Hope they are good, wasn’t hard, but I hate to waste.
Re-organized the freezer and found some free space that I already filled. It’s pretty near packed in there. Let’s hope the thing doesn’t break down or we lose electric. The best part is that I can get to all of it fairly easily. Meat, poultry, veggies, fruits, broth, juices, bones for broth, and other odds and ends. I have enough broccolli and cauliflower that I think we could eat it once a week until the crops start again next year! We really like those in our house so once a week would be a minimum for us anyhow. I do have some space left for applesauce, though not much, so some of that is going to have to be canned.
I’ve not canned much before, barely at all. It’s frightening to me because of the giant pressure cooker, so I’m trying to avoid that kind of canning and sticking with water-bath canning. I have no clue what I am doing though. Monday’s apple day (twice confirmed with all involved parties so this time a go unless God-forbid I break a leg or something) will help as I can watch a “master” or two at work. My friend has done it before and my Grandma is an ex-4H mom, gardener, scout leader, etc. from a generation that really didn’t buy a lot of canned goods….they made them. Should be fun, the camera is packed so I will be updating with photos, a few recipes, and the likes.
So that is what I’ve been up to. Lots of little bits of things.
